I do a lot of my stuff myself, but there are lots of
folks that I have recorded with and or played with including; Danny Carey,
Bill Terney, Phil Burton, Joe Cartwright, Butch Thomas, Max Pots, Bill
Westfall, Brian Kelly, Doug Kirkman, Chris Ashley, Tony Anthonis, Perry Emge, Casey Adams,
Thomas Carrington, Hunter Sprenger, Jesse Morgan, Tony Morgan, Stan Colman,
Durious Montgomery, Larry Kornfeld, Lew Winer 111, Dave Smith, Obeid Khan,
Billy Strasser, Jeb Sloan, Spike Dering, Dougg Franks, Donny Wren, Greg
Lawrence, Riley Wilson, Rondo, Sable, Tropix, Felonious Funk, Trane Yo Dawg,
Drastic Measures, Acts, Weapons and Uncle Meat... and sat in a few times with
the late Jonny Johnson - I know I've forgotten to mention a lot of other folks
that I hope will forgive me. My influences are the same as any ones in the respect that anything my spirit receives as art is an influence, and then some. However, the following have all been instrumental in my musical growth; Pat Martino, Joe Diorio, Scott Henderson, Joe Pass, Steve Vai, Jennifer Batten, Jeff Beck and Hendrix. I have had personal experience with all but the latter two of these individuals. From P.M. was the importance of precision and clarity and the diminished concept. From Poppa Joe Diorio comes understanding and liberation and the plurals. Scott said "There comes a time when you just have to be yourself". I have personally been 'cussed out' by Joe Pass for not knowing enough inversions of a B Flat Seventh Chord, (an experience many people would pay dearly to wear on their sleeve). Steve Vai said "Don't be afraid to be creative". Jennifer Batten, who gave me an E String just after her seminar and an important rehearsal for me, said "If you believe in yourself you must act upon that to create something better for yourself and those around you". Joe D. also said "No Excuses my man!". I try to live by this. Love, Peace, Growth and Power -Randy Hetlage
